Regional Coach, Eastern Region
About Me
My interest in diving started about 30 years ago in South Africa. On returning to live in the UK family and career commitments meant I had little spare time for adventure sports. My interest in diving was rekindled in the mid 1990’s and a few years after getting back into the sport, I decided to join my local BS-AC branch in Luton.
These days, I am a member of Dacorum SAC in Hemel Hempstead. Over the last 10 years, I have achieved instructor and first class diver qualifications. 3 years ago, I became the area coach for Bedfordshire.
In addition, I am also the BS-AC Travel Club correspondent for south & East Asia, a member of the Nautical Archeological Society, treasurer of Luton Sports Network and a keen underwater photographer.
My main task of regional coach is to support my regional team to enable the availability and delivery of all levels BS-AC training and branch support to all clubs and members in the region.
Eastern Region
Eastern region is a geographically diverse region and covers the counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk & Suffolk. Within the region we have about 80 branches inclusive of university clubs and special branches on military bases.
The regional coaching team is available to provide training/SDC’s and branch support. Some of the team are also active in specialist aspects of diving at national level and are helping to shape the future of safe diving techniques for all BS-AC members.
I am very proud of the eastern region team. They are dedicated to delivering high quality training and support to the region’s branches, schools and members. I am also keen to support any instructors who would like to build on their experience by helping out in the region on SDC and other appropriate events.
During my term as regional coach I am going to concentrate on the following key areas:
- Continue to improve communications to branches/members with a new website and internet messaging system
- Clarify and optimise the roles of the regional team
- Ensure the region continues to offer training and support on request, to all branches and members
- Host annual Club official/Instructor regional conferences
